Be Wild (Chloe)

It was funny how life was, all her life Kat had wanted to go to Australia and now here she was, sitting on a old wooden railway bridge counting down the days until she would be off again, on to another adventure in a new place. Kat never had wanted to settle down and while she did love Australia she felt it was time for her to move on and make the most of the time she had with Anton before study meant that they would have to return to England where (fingers crossed) she'd be accepted to do her degree in Healing. Kat hoped it would all work out, her grades hadn't been as good as she'd wanted but whatever happened she guessed she would just make the most of it.

Much like the weather really, Kat had planned to spend her last summer by the beach, Her, Anton, Chloe and her 'new' family but the last few days had been nothing but rain and there was nothing like pouring rain to dampen her spirits. Even though it was cold Kat decided that she was going out today and it was time she went about keeping her promise to Chloe, it gave her something to do for which she'd been lacking ever since school had finished and in between planning her and Anton's trip which had started out all excitement but slowed down once the days started creeping closer till they would be going. So being as usual the first up Kat packed her car and stuck a note on the table for Chloe to join her once she got up. Now there was nothing to do but wait and enjoy the view of the river far below. Kat was a bit worried that the hills would be too much for Chloe's bike, maybe she should have waited to give her a lift in her car? There had been a few Muggle tourists around when Kat had arrived but she'd put some charms across the road and now there was nobody else here at all.

At least it wouldn't be hard to find, Kat was just sitting on one of the lowest support beams of the bridge, the wood going far above her head. Kat didn't know how tall it was but she liked it, it was peaceful with the trees and the bush all around. The sun had come out again as well, it was playing a game of hide and seek with the clouds. Maybe she should have invited Lady Macbeth as well? A silly thought but Kat had always felt Rowan's Firelizard was more then met the eye. Sometimes she caught her brother talking to it like they where having a real conversation, weird but then again she guessed they where all a bit different in their own way. Looking up at the sky she tried to judge what time it was, would Chloe be up yet? Kat didn't know but she didn't mind, it was a nice morning despite the cold and being out and about always made her feel better then staying inside. She just hoped Chloe wouldn't be too annoyed with her for asking her to come out here, who knew she was probably busy washing her goat or something.. Kat giggled at that thought, it still amused her that her sister had a pet goat, it was just so random.

Chloe had been in a relatively lazy mood today. She'd woken up late with every intent to just lounge around doing nothing at all for any particular reason. Except maybe eating of course. And spoiling Bertrand some more. Usually, she'd ride her Vespa. She loved her Vespa. But she'd ridden it any chance she got for who knew how many days straight and now worried that maybe he needed time to rest.

That was all part of her basic plan until she waltzed into the kitchen and found a note from Kat. Trestle bridge, huh? That'd take some time to travel there. Well, maybe one more ride on her Vespa wouldn't hurt!

About 10 minutes or so later, Chloe had arrived at the bridge in question, a container of goodies in the side seat usually reserved for Bertrand. He'd still been dozing so she hadn't wanted to wake him. The goodies in particular were food. Because she was hungry and needed some sustenance if she was to be moving all around this early.

Now where was Kat? Curious, Chloe parked her bike and took out something to nibble on.

While Kat had started the day full of hope and excitement about her 'plan' as the minutes ticked by she found herself first nervous and then worried. What if Chloe didn't want to hang out with her? What if she was doing something better with Marcus.. they'd probably have gone to town and not seen her note at all. Kat couldn't help but remember all those long months of wondering about her half-sister, this girl who her brother talked about constantly and seemed to judge Kat herself as ill-fit competition. Kat had for the most part rarely found herself being disliked and to be rejected by family had wounded her deeply at a time where she had not much at all to rely on. Where it not for Anton and Rowan being so nice to her she might well have given up all together. Things had gotten better when Chloe had come back and yet for Kat she still felt insecure around her, guilty for having that extra bit of blood that made her more related to Marcus when she'd never lived under her father's household or known any of the things that had driven her Mum to flee when she had found a opportunity.

Now she felt guilty for wanting to leave because while she hadn't said as much in words she had promised herself that she wouldn't go until she had spent some proper time.. some 'sister time' with Chloe... if of course Chloe wanted to, Kat hoped so she really did but it wasn't until the whine of the vespa engine cut though the quiet that Kat was pulled from her thoughts and doubts with the arrival of Chloe. Kat grinned, relief that she wasn't going to be stuck out her alone wondering for the rest of her life. While she had been waiting Kat had wandered over to climb the bride which meant now she had to hurry down, a risky thing to do as a human she concentrated and a moment later a otter flopped it's way down the muddy hill before returning to a red haired girl at the bottom. Out of breath and disjointed from the rapid transformation Kat stood still for a moment to steady herself a moment, then her smile returned "Hi Chloe!" walking over she had to smirk to find her sister with food.. but then it was probably her fault for getting Chloe out here before she'd had time to have breakfast. Kat herself didn't eat as much as her siblings but she'd packed sandwiches and the remains of a batch of brownies she'd made the day before in the boot of her car for lunch. "I hope you weren't busy but I packed lunch" Kat said as way of some explanation as she tucked her hands in the pocket of her cardigan to stay warm. "How's Bertrand?" Kat asked somewhat earnest for something to talk about, she hoped Chloe wouldn't be in a bad mood about being out and about before lunchtime, her brother just tended to grouch at her if she even dared mention the idea of a trip or whatever before lunchtime on a Sunday... Kat was probably fortunate that she'd never figured out exactly why it was that her brother and Rowan never seemed to be around on those particular mornings.

Chloe looked up at the sound of Kat's voice, slightly surprised. Where the hell had she come from? She looked around as if trying to figure out what was the most likely direction. In the end, she shrugged her shoulders. Oh well.

She was glad to see her enough but she perked up some when her sister mentioned lunch. That was good. Chloe figured whatever they were going to do would take a while. It was good that Kat gave this some thought. Because honestly, she hadn't given it much thought.

"Nope, not that busy at all." The girl answered. "Bertrand's pretty fine. Last I saw, he was still out cold though. So..." Chloe clapped her hand. [b]"Wanna share my brekkie?"

Kat was never all that quick on the uptake, she was a literal person and so when Chloe looked around she did also on assumption that there was something to see. "Everything okay?" Kat asked toying with a strand of her wavy hair. It concerned her that she 'stuck out' so much, all her life she had been the odd one out for being tall and red haired people always stared or poked and prodded her when they where overseas. At least in Europe she didn't stick out so much and feel like she was a giant. It had been funny knowing that her brother was so much shorter then her, and Chloe had grown quite tall as well so Kat guessed it must have been because their father was very tall, Mum of course was short which must have been why Marcus was so short. While she often wondered if it bothered her brother to have to look up to his sisters Kat had never dared ask lest it irritate him, she seemed to have a natural talent for getting on her brother's bad side, he was so different to Owen who would just laugh things off and not worry about anything at all. Kat had never spent so much time apart from her family as she had in the past year, usually she would always have her Mum and Dad and at least one of her siblings and yet she had to remind herself that she had other family now who where just as important. It didn't stop her missing the rest of her family dearly though. Especially when she wasn't sure how long it would be till she saw them again or if she would ever be welcomed back to Australia by her family here.

"That's good.. " Kat spoke slowly, gaining confidence to hear her sister wasn't in a sour mood, it was hard getting to know someone when you'd gotten off the worst possible start imaginable but Kat didn't want to have to say goodbye without doing what she could to fix things. "Bertrand's really cute.. he's gotten so big!" indeed while Kat had seen a few goats during her life she was more used to them being scrawny things then to be held as pets, Kat never wanted to mention the places she visited where Goat was considered a delicacy for one thing. Strange as it was for someone who spent so much of her day talking Kat always found herself a bit awkward around Chloe, she felt all elbows and knees with big feet when her sister seemed so much more confidant about everything. Maybe it was just one of those things that happened when you got older? Either way it was hard not to smile and nod when Chloe offered food, Kat had grown up in the mindset to never say no to food and she'd quickly learnt the same was very much the case with her new family as well. "Sure!" she was curious to find out what Chloe had managed to stash in her Vespa, Kat had never had such good luck with finding food, usually her brother would catch her and unlike Chloe she was bound to get in trouble unless Rowan was there. "I made some sandwiches and brownies too.. just in case" Kat explained as she fiddled with the key to her car, the back doors always stuck and she wrenched it open and pulled out a picnic blanket.. a touch of wandless magic making it float and settle itself in a slightly lopsided square on the ground. "I uh.. thought that if you wanted we could try that spirit walk thing today?" Kat bit her lip, much as Marcus had told her no and never she did have a small amount of hash hidden in her glove box for special occasions and she had found it had worked amazingly well when she herself had done her first spirit walk.. but it was up to Chloe to decide and maybe it would be better to just pretend and not do anything that would make their brother go nuclear?

"Huh? Oh, everything's fine. I was just trying to see where you came from that's all..." Chloe trailed off then, still looking before snapping out of her fascination you could say and focusing back on her sister. If she'd gotten the crap scared out of her, she might have been more inclined to figure it out. Even demanded Kat tell her where she'd been before. As things were, she was only curious. Nothing more.

As their conversation began, Chloe beamed at the compliment towards Bertrand. Naturally like a good goat Mummy, anything good said about her "son" was something good about her as well. "Thank you. I take good care of him."

There wasn't a lot stashed in her Vespa. After all, she couldn't put anything really heavy in there. So Chloe simply removed a container of scones, some crumpets, muffins and some sausage to round out the protein. With the toppings like honey and such. Naturally. Looking at it was making her hungry already. As did hearing what Kat had brought for their lunch.

Chloe's curiosity about today was rather overshadowed by the anticipation of food. But as she passed the breakfast basket to share, her attention was caught when her sister explained. "Really?" Her eyes widened some. Mostly because she hadn't thought the other girl was all that willing what with the way Marcus had reacted. And yet... "That sounds like a good idea!" Chloe decided, biting into a muffin. "After we eat of course, yeah?"

Chloe's question caused Kat to blush when she realised just how little her half-sister knew about her, "Oh um well see I'm a Animagus..." fidgeting she hoped that wouldn't be a problem, "Mum taught me how to become a animal and well it took lots of practice but I can be a otter and it's so amazingly cool.." it didn't take much for Kat to get carried away and it was only as a after thought that she remembered that Chloe's mother wasn't the same as hers. "I was up there" she explained pointing towards the top of the bridge "only it was too steep to run down so I thought if I changed it would be easier". Now she felt foolish, what if someone had come and seen her.. so much trouble she would have gotten into what with breaking the laws and having the Ministry of Magic get involved, all because she had been too lazy to climb down properly. The fact that she tended to forget about such things and had a habit of showing off did not help at all when it came to a point where rules had to be made that she wouldn't go turning into things except when it was for class.

While she knew Bertrand was a good topic for conversation goat's where something Kat didn't really know too much about, well at least not that much that wasn't suitable for polite conversation. For all the creatures she had seen it was always the people that where most interesting to her and so for all that she was fortunate it didn't seem that much of a big deal. At least food was a endless topic, Kat tended to go though stages of being picky and eating about everything offered to her. "Wow.." Kat's eyes where wide at what had been stashed away in the vespa, between the two of them they probably had enough food to last a couple of days in the wilderness vs a afternoon in the forest or 'bush' as they called it. "at least we won't starve!" she laughed as they made a impromptu picnic of the food. Kat wasn't big on muffins but scones reminded her of her Aunt and so she tried her best to be neat about adding jam without getting the stuff all over the place. Her thoughts had been caught of late by the travel bug and she was worried that wanting to move on would upset Chloe for not fulfilling her promises.

Family was important, Kat knew that before everything else and so she nodded a yes that she was willing to try, they didn't have a jungle nor the ayahuasca tea that the people there had used. Kat had been worried that Chloe wouldn't want to spend time with her, it had always been Chloe and Marcus so Kat was used to being the one on the outside not wanting to impose more then she had already. "Okay.. after food.." Kat said and then remembered the fact that she had been quite ill during parts of her 'trips' "only um.. you might not want to eat too much otherwise you might get sick.." Kat made a slight face in memory of her adventures with the magical brown liquid that had involved just as much being sick as fantastic visions. Kat herself was quite a slow eater and had plenty of time to think and mull over if it was better to do it properly or just pretend? "I need to brew up some potions.. that is if you want.. it's quite strong and some people.. " she didn't name names "might not be happy but if you want to I can.." it didn't seem fair to Kat that Chloe should miss out on something everyone else got to enjoy after all! At least that was what Kat thought, she herself had been far from innocent at the age of seventeen but somehow she felt that it was not a area she could yet speak of to Chloe, even Ellie didn't know all the going ons that had happened and Owen had only figured out the big stuff, not the little things that had made her heart sing or broken it when things had not turned out the way she'd hoped.

She blinked for a moment as if it took a moment for the words to reach her brain. And then her eyes lit up. "Omigoat, really? That is amazing!" Chloe exclaimed, excitedly. It was registered that Kat had answered the main question of where she had appeared all of a sudden but it was hardly a main focus. She was an animagus. Everything else was invalid.

As they set up to eat, Chloe actually smiled in some embarrassment when Kat exclaimed over all that she brought for breakfast. And then she ended up laughing too right along with her sister. "I guess I went a little overboard. Oh well. If there are any leftovers, I can share a little with Bertrand. It'll be a special treat since he can't just eat anything all the time. Not like pigs can. People tend to get them confused when it comes to eating."

Happily, she ate a little of everything. Because she liked everything. Picky about food, Chloe was not. Her sister's warning came right on time as the younger girl was already on her way to seconds. "Really?" That was asked with the non voiced 'aww' in front. Because she didn't wanna get sick but she wanted to eat. "I guess I won't be sharing all of the leftovers with Bertrand then. Oh well, I can I can use it for a snack." Chloe did end up with seconds anyway but then she put the rest up so she wouldn't be tempted for thirds.

It didn't take much to connect the dots that meant Marcus as far as the certain someone who wouldn't be happy. Chloe was already imagining his face. But who said he had to know? Besides, this was her birthday present. At first, she wasn't sure it would happen but here was their chance. It would be taken. "Oh, I want to. I did not come all the way out here at this time of day just to bow out now. Let's do it." Yeah! Determination and passion.

Hobson's where not usually the quickest to pick up on new facts, Kat herself was no different and it was funny to watch Chloe's reaction and excitement, it was at times like that where Kat felt that she really did have something to contribute to the newest member of her family for while she wasn't game enough to come out and say anything she really did think of Chloe as her sister.. there was no halves or steps in her life, it didn't matter 'how' someone was related to you, it was the fact that they where which was all that counted. Nodding a small relieved laugh passed her lips, how was it that she always got so nervous around Chloe? Ever since she had first met her half-sister it had confused her that she was so nice and happy when for so long she'd been told that Chloe hadn't even wanted to meet her. Kat had found over the past couple of years that it had been difficult to shake off what had happened but she was doing her best to put it behind her and focus on the positive, she didn't have much time left after all so it seemed foolish to waste it!

Somehow it was the simplest thing in the world, a sharing of a meal that could make everything right, Kat giggled as her sister laughed, one thing she had learnt early on was that her sister did have a habit of going more then a bit overboard on things at times. It was nice though, Kat was so used to having to be careful with what they had that being able to pig out from time to time was a wonderful treat. "My Mum wouldn't agree but I think it's always better to have a bit too much to eat then not enough.. she says that it is just as wicked to waste food when there are so many that go hungry" for a moment Kat toyed with her scone, picking at it in momentary guilt before shrugging as her thoughts went back onto lighter topics as Chloe talked about how goats where different then pigs. "I don't like pigs" Kat stated flatly, one of the major sore points between her and her siblings had been the matter of her refusal to eat meat. "You know in Papua New Guinea people are respected for how big and fat their pigs are.. they are very important to make them wealthy" for once Kat had been studying hard of late, all with the aim of trying to decide where she and Anton should travel on their holiday to fill in the time before university started. "Maybe one day we can go there and tell them that goats are much better" she said before her mind caught up with the reminder that it probably wouldn't be such a wise idea.

It felt mean to tell her sister that she couldn't eat as much as she wanted, especially since it had been Chloe who had brought most of the food, but Kat knew she was going to get into trouble.. making Chloe sick would just make it that much worse! "The first time I was so very sick that I did not get to go far at all.. but I think I know a recipe that shouldn't make you feel bad..".. guilt painted a colourful picture of her face, she knew a good recipe all right.. it just happened to involve a mixture of a stomach settling potion and a package of fresh herbs of the happy variety. Truth be told the blame had to lay on her brother Owen for that discovery. With a simple "Okay" Kat had signed her own death warrant as she hurried to her car, grabbing the small cauldron and bustle of herbs and the other herbs almost as a afterthought before returning to her sister. Dumping the whole lot into the pot with the remains of a bottle of water Kat had plenty of time to imagine just how angry everyone would be as she waited for the mixture to brew, the strong herbal smell was going to be tough to mask but it was already too late to back out on her promise.. maybe it wouldn't work? Kat wondered for a moment if she would even be able to tell.. mind you it hadn't taken long for Rowan to go from sick to giggling.. Kat smiled to herself a moment, it was funny enough now that she had for the most part been forgiven.. "I think it's ready!" Kat called out, nervous and excited all at the same time as she fumbled for her want to cast a cooling spell so the mixture would be safe to drink. There was a million things that could go wrong, but Kat was excited to know her sister was willing to trust her enough to do something naughty.. even if Kat didn't understand what was wrong with a bit of mind altering from time to time.

There was actually quite a lot of conversation to be had here. That shouldn't be all that interesting except Chloe had to admit that she never saw herself doing much of this at all when it came to Kat. After all, before she'd been anxious and jealous. Here was this girl who was older, probably more mature and surely bound to be able to do more things with Marcus than she could. Probably have better talks as well. Nowadays, Chloe felt better but every once in a while, something would remind her.

She didn't say much after said sister commented on not liking pigs. There wasn't anything to say really. I mean, save for trying to convince her meat wasn't all that bad but that'd be rather rude, wouldn't it? Because no one wanted vegetarians trying to tell them to give it up so why should they go vice versa? "You really think we could go? Because that sounds like a brilliant idea. Spread the word and love of Goat." She had no clue where Papua New Guinea was but she was willing to give it a shot.

Chatting about it and planning it out was one thing. But getting ready to do it was another. Butterflies started going crazy in her belly at the thought that she was actually going to do this. And her brother was gonna have a coronary. If he found out. He wouldn't have to find out, would he? What day was it? Was it Sunday? If it was Sunday, then they'd probably be safe because no way would he miss them out here with how... "busy" he'd be. But if it wasn't Sunday. Bloody hell, she couldn't remember what day it was!

Kat's yell that the potion was ready made Chloe jump, so lost in her thoughts she had been. But she got up soon enough to see it. And drink it. And... other things. Oi...

"Maybe.." Kat said before her eyes went wide with horror as she remembered the full page of travel advice and warnings "only um.. it's probably not a good idea to go now because there's kind of a lot of crime and fighting.. oh and cannibals!" It said a lot about Kat that she was just as tempted by the prospects of going somewhere where ethnic tension was at it's worse, Kat always wanted to go where she could help but her Mum had drilled in rules and she certainly didn't want to be raped or murdered. Kat was trying to think of something better, she felt guilty for looking forward to her holiday when her sister was going to be stuck doing schoolwork, Kat hated schoolwork which was why she was now nervously hoping her experience with Wizards Without Borders might help make up for her average grades. Of course university was going to be worse, Kat wondered if it would have been better to just disappear into the uncharted mountains of West Paupa with Anton rather then return to civilization to spend the next three years studying. "I don't think Marcus would be happy but youknow they have these program things where you can work with goats in like Africa and that... you know you could probably travel all over the place taking care of goats" Kat had never really thought about it before but she smiled "You'd love Africa.. it's so beautiful and the people are so lovely". Kat sighed, it had been awhile since she'd gotten a letter from her family and while it was normal she couldn't help but worry about them when they showed pictures of bad things happening overseas.

With the potion cooling Kat was going though her own dilemma of wanting to keep her promise to Chloe, it was far too late to back down now and so all she could do was to pour the slightly brownish-green mixture into a mug, trying to avoid inhaling too much of the rich herbal scent.. someone had to keep a eye out after all! Slopping a bit as she got to her feet she felt nervous as she watched her sister looking for any tell tale sign that she was going to be sick or anything else was happening. Now Kat wasn't sure what to do, she vaguely remembered being left alone in the jungle but Kat couldn't do that so she did her best to be quiet while all the time fearing that Marcus or somebody else would show up and 'bust' them. Oh man she really shouldn't have thought of that earlier. Kat couldn't help but fret, it had been over a year now since she had first met her brother and learned that she had a little sister.. how excited she'd been and after all the bad stuff that had happened she didn't want anything bad to happen now. Maybe after today she could forget all that stuff and just remember the good times like the trip to the beach and helping her sister show up to class in costume to share the word of 'goat'. Kat didn't much know why goat's where important, it seemed to be something between Chloe and Marcus that she didn't dare ask. This too was important, Kat remembered being told that one took the spirit walk to go from being a child to a woman or man... to Kat the laws seemed silly that you 'became' a real wizard the moment you turned seventeen and not a moment before, in the wild one never knew what day it was and so rituals where much more sensible to Kat's eyes. Now it was Chloe's turn to find who she was, Kat didn't want to leave her alone though..anything could happen and what if Chloe tried jumping off the bridge or something? No it was better to be quiet and watch to see that all was well.

"Oh..." Chloe murmured when Kat informed her about the dangerous state of the country in Papua New Guinea. "Yeah... that would be bad. They probably wouldn't even like goats either." It was almost too bad. But oh well. She was all set to basically move on when her sister mentioned Africa as a replacement. "Really?" And then the young lady went thoughtful. It was a conundrum that Marcus might not like it... But on the other hand... she was already doing something he didn't like now. A fact that still sorta freaked her out. But what if she could go there instead of back... home for lack of a better word. Or more accurately to her father. She could make up something. It was a good thing to be knowledgeable of other cultures, right? Maybe she could use that. Sure, it'd keep her from everyone that she knew but it had to be better than going back... had to be. "It sounds like fun!"

Her first thought was that the stuff was strong. It didn't stink. Which turned out to be a good thing. Because Chloe couldn't promise she'd go through with it if the stuff made her wretch just by smelling it. Hell, this potion already looked gross. Still, they'd already come pretty far. It would be a bummer to just stop here. Even if she was nervous. Part of her wished she'd brought Bertrand along. He always seemed to make her feel better or make things seem less intimidating. But here she and Kat were.

Chloe gingerly took the mug of potion and held it for a moment. She made eye contact with her sister for a moment, as if getting a bit of comfort there as well. And maybe she did. After all, this was her older sis. Then with a nod, she closed her eyes and guzzled the stuff down.

For a few moments, she felt nothing. And then her vision started to get particularly weird...

Nodding along with her sister Kat wondered about how different their lives had been up until this point, sometimes she wanted to ask about her real father but her Mum had always said it was better to not dwell on the past and she knew enough from Marcus before he knew who she was to have a idea that it wasn't a polite subject of conversation. Still the question remained, Kat had to smile when Chloe spoke about Africa, it seemed odd but Kat considered herself more of a child of Africa and South America then European. The loved the wild landscapes and endless sky and the people so it was only natural that she got a bit excited about the places she had grown up unaware that it was more the prospects of where she'd be away from then the joys to be found in the far off lands that tempted her sister. "I grew up in Africa.. well sort of.." she fidgeted thinking of the blur of memories, beaches, forests, so many faces and people with her own pale family mixed in between"we moved around a lot" shifting nervously she couldn't understand how her brother had managed to live for so long cooped up in one place, to Kat it was worse then death to be forced to watch the whole world go by and not be able to take part.
Everyone was different though, Kat guessed that at most Chloe was being polite so she wasn't taking it all too seriously... right up until Chloe said it sounded like fun. "..really?" the wicked grin that usually meant trouble returned. "I thought you'd be all excited about going to university ...or something.." her face reddened both in admitting that she had no idea what plans her sister had, and in knowing that she didn't so much look forward to starting university..more dreaded it? It made her feel sad in a way that she could be family and yet know so little about someone, but then again she'd hardly worried about that when it had come to her real father. Maybe one day she would ask, one day when everyone was in a good mood and they where far away... in Africa maybe? where there would be nothing to worry about.
For the moment though Kat just had to settle with worrying about Chloe, watching the younger girl take the mug she offered a little smile as her green eyes met the deep brown of her sister. It was just like them that none of them quite matched. Now it was time to wait and see as Chloe quickly drunk the mixture, biting her lip she watched for any signs of oddness... thinking about her brother Owen for a moment as she remembered the first time she had managed to get him to share a smoke with her.
