WWBN-NY Radio Personality set to Run for Office?

The Magical world today woke to a flurry of Werks and stories after last night's broadcast of Dunena Reid's Weird Weird World hinted, quite strongly that recently crowned Houglass Magazine's Person of the Year Dunena Reid, was set to enter the race for the 2012 American Magical Elections with no lesser sight then the Minister's position currently held by Ronald Frump.

Speaking to the Ministry this morning reporters where told that while some paperwork may have been received it was after the weekend cut-off and would not be looked at until the subsequent week at the earliest.. unless it had fallen on the desk of one F. Blake in which one just had to hope that it would be filed at all.

Considered a possible hoax a interview with Producer and year long associate of Mr Reid Benjamin Jefferson led to the following statement "The hell I know? Trust me man I'm usually the last to find out these things"

Yes ladies the roamers where true that none other then high flung socialite and darling of the European Ministry Fifi LaRoux has been sighted in Melbourne, Australia which has recently been named the worlds most livable city for a second time.

While none have stated what brought on the arrival of Miss LaRoux there's been no question that the world famous Hit Witch has made no secret of her visit with roamers of a behind closed doors meeting with the Minister for Magic himself before dining out at the exclusive Vue de Monde for drinks. Seemingly at home in the city Fifi underwent a tour of the Auror department before attending the midwinter launch of the Matacore 'Enchantment' line of fashion robes. Speaking exclusively to WWBN Fifi states that she was very pleased to be in Australia and would not commit to any return dates nor roamers that her visit had anything to do with attempts to influence the Australian Ministry to re-think it's ties to Ronald Frump's ministry.

WWBN World News : Pottermore to go head to head with Woozle?
Fri Jun 24, 2011 5:51 pmM
"In Global News today many Muggles the world over logged on to the unveiling of 'Pottermore' last night, a new co-production between 'JK', Warner Brothers and Muggle Game Man..Man..Manufacturer Sony. Promising to give Muggles and Wizards alike a whole new experience many prominent figures in the magical world have come out damning what they see as yet another crass profit making exercise at the expense of the magical community.

One Hogwarts teacher has stated that since this 'Pottermore thing' started they have been inundated with well over one thousand owls from worried parents, former students and others wishing to know if it would mean Muggles would be allowed to study at Hogwarts or.. worse the school was to give up it's long held stance amongst the only schools to not have it's own interweb network.

While many in the Wizarding World are concerned Woozle today speaking to WWBN-Japan was quoted as "Not at all Worried" while reminding Wizards and Muggles alike that "whatever Pottermore promises to be there is no doubt that with Sony it will only be a matter of time before hackers get it".

In other news the Australian Ministry of Magic has moved to deny any connection to a self-declaired witch jailed for recklessly causing serious injury and dangerous driving. The Australian Minister for Magic was quoted as calling the woman a 'Bloody Idiot' while reminding that no matter what world one thinks they belong to, the laws of Australia still apply.

While the Minister was brought into a furor over recent alligations surrounding his private life it was the revelation of his secret Tuscan Villa that has lead to red faces and claims to 'Sue WWBN for every knurd it has'. Amid the turmoil ratings for WWBN's radio talk show have skyrocketed making it more popular then 'Clives Charms Hour'. Speaking to the head of WWBN it was quoted that 'Whoever Dunena is they're on to a good thing, and might just be the Wizarding Worlds answer to the Muggle World's 'Julian Assange'"

Marty had been back home for a few weeks now. Hard to believe it had been almost a month since he jumped off a bridge in Paris and entered an entirely new world, a world of magic. In some ways, nothing had really changed. Well, besides the newly installed floo in his office and apartment and his new pair of assistants, Vincent and Victor who alternated the roll of Victor, newly employed Smoking Llama.com lab assistant. McQueen had pretty much left Marty alone though the twins did install subtle wards on his lab/office that would go off should someone try to enter when none of them were there. There had been nothing major discovered yet though a few minor things had been sent back to Dominic to consider. Marty had noticed that one or two other new employees besides Victor had turned up and it set him thinking on previous co-workers. He knew there was something there he was missing right now but decided to step away from that for a while and come back to it fresh again.

It had been two weeks since he tested for the W.O.M.B.A.T.s Level 1 and so far had not heard the results. He felt he had definitely passed them though it would be nice to know for sure, as well as to how well he had done. However, the lack of news had not stopped him from plunging onward and studying for the Level 2's. This way, he'd be ready to take them when he did get the results, or at least soon after. Right now, however, he was taking a break, drinking a cup of coffee as he watched the activity outside his loft apartment on the street below. He was currently wondering how a certain French hit wizard was doing and if she ever received his owl.

She's Like the Wind Empty Re: She's Like the Wind

Fifi had not been pleased with the news she had heard on returning to France, ever since the night she had been sure that Marty had been killed in the streets of Paris Nicci had insisted on sending her abroad to assist the British Ministry of Magic in the manhunt of a dark wizard accused of practicing necromancy and using unforgivables on innocent Muggles. Fifi could not help but feel that she had been set aside, that far from being some hapless Muggle in need of her help Marty had become the jewel in Nicci's eye, his new 'pet' project for which Fifi was resentful both in that of the jealousy that Nicci had sent her away while at the same time spending more time with Marty then she had been allowed.

There was no doubt that Fifi had been distracted while on the mission, a fact that proved disastrous as the mission was a abject failure.. a rare one at that! Fifi did not like failure but her mind had wandered at the wrong moment and the next thing she knew was the familiar ceiling of St Mungo's. Where it not for the pain she might have laughed at how ironic that it was the first time, in a very long time that she had used her assigned bed for healing and not just 'sleeping'. Fifi had fond memories of the first time she had visited the ward, the Healer in charge being very annoyed that that while it was true that each Hit Wizard was assigned their own bed it was for healing and not pleasure. Fifi didn't know how long she stayed there, dark magic was tricky at best and it was a good week before she was able to return to her own apartment.

Normally being at home was enough to sooth her spirit but instead Fifi was in a restless mood, prowling around the light airy rooms as if daring the world to come at her now while she was still weakened if not in body but in mind and information. Nicci of course made to call on her and sent expensive gifts with the promise to take as much time as she needed. His polite civilly was the most infuriating thing of all! Eventually, after days of inaction Fifi decided that enough was enough and she would see Marty.. just maybe it would not be too late.

It was raining when she reached New York, the cloak wrapped tightly around her with a invisibility charm woven into the threads. It was a good quality one so there was nothing but the slightest ripple as she climbed the fire escape and with a couple of quick spells let herself into the building. Strange as it was seeing that Fifi had never actually been inside before she knew roughly where she was going and so came to a unremarkable door. Humph, locked and no doubt Nicci would have warded it. So here she was, Fifi LaRoux having to knock like some mere nobody. So much for her sneaky entrance as she knocked loudly on the door twice before crossing her arms and staring up at the roof as if she just happened to be passing though.

Which was entirely pointless since she'd forgotten she was still wearing a cloak of invisibility with only the very tip of her toes peeking out under the hem.

Marty was not a wizard but Victor and Vincent had thought of that and the fact that Marty would not necessarily feel the wards placed on his apartment being approached or breeched so they had rigged up a spell that would either turn his music system on or off depending on the current state of it. Since he had been studying, it had currently been off so he would concentrate and not lose focus. Which is why he heard the cd of French Christmas Music begin before the two raps at his door.

Setting his cup on the desk, Marty went over to the door. Looking out the spyhole, he saw nothing or no one, but knew someone must be there because he would have heard the crack of apparating or the sound of running feet had they left. Undoing the bolt and chain, he opened it slowly, allowing himself time to slam it shut before giving any possible opponent time to gain correct aim. No one was there. He was about to lean out when he chanced to look down and saw the tips of a lovely and stylish pair of shoes. Okay, not so lovely and stylish but definitely not Victor or Vincent's style and Vanessa never came to the states.

"Does this mean you got my owl?" he asked, hopefully, looking up from the shoes to where her face would be had it been there. He had begun to worry that she had never gotten it or, worse yet, was so angry at him that he'd never hear from her again. "You're welcome to come in," he offered, stepping aside and opening the door wider to let her in. Fortunately, after his few days of depression and then his sudden trip to Paris, he had spent a few days fall cleaning his apartment and now, things were put up where they belonged and all was neat. Just his books and notes were scattered over his desk where he had been studying.

She's Like the Wind Empty Re: She's Like the Wind

There was that slight itching feeling of being watched, Fifi had not at first noticed the little round hole in the door, but when she did it was not a moment before the door inched open. With her arms crossed Fifi might well have stared hole though the roof had it not been for Marty opening the door. Still fuming in her poor mood Fifi waited for him to open it fully, half tempted to pretend she had never been there at all and simply walk off leaving the man in abject confusion no doubt. Why had she come here? Why invest so much time and effort even to break her own laws when all that she had succeeded in was giving Nicci what he seemed to want.. a replacement for herself that was stable, not one that required careful management by potions and constant observation. It was too late though as Fifi followed Marty's movements to notice her toes where not covered by the cloak. Cursing to herself Nicci was right that she was getting sloppy. "Owl?" Fifi asked before pushing her way into the room, she didn't yet feel like uncovering herself, right now she felt about as invisible as she appeared once she had adjusted the cloak to cover her fully again.

"Well it does seems you have wasted no time in getting in Nicci's favour" Fifi stated as she stepped around Marty's abode, now that she was under cover the worn sneakers had come into their own, everyone knew that Fifi LaRoux wore heels, which was why the soft souls of the shoes worn from the days before she had become the world renowned Hit Witch barely made a sound of her movements. She had passed her Auror exam in concealment wearing such a outfit and once in any one place for a time would have faded to the background where it not her annoyance at the music. Flicking her wand there was a 'click of the music cutting out. One glance at Marty's desk told her all she needed to know, she was not needed.. no wonder Nicci had allowed her to languish in St Mungo's for so long (ignoring the fact that she had taken that long to recover from the dark magic that had taken her down. With a dejected sigh Fifi pulled out a chair, sitting in it backwards she rested her covered head against it. "Nicci never told you then did he? But of course why would he.." Nicci was after all a master of 'need to know'. Going though her pockets Fifi selected a cigarette from her case and put it in her mouth as her hood slipped down. Holding her wand to the tip she lit it before slipping her wand back to it's shoulder holster. "Ai make one mistake, put feelings before the mission and this is what Ai get" Fifi blew the smoke out before she had even considered that Marty may not have wished to have her smoking in his home. Never the less she did not at this precise moment care. "Whatever you think you know about Nicci know this, he would have quiet happily left you to be killed then rescued, it is only that you are useful and when your usefulness runs out" Fifi shrugged "That is all". Why was she warning him of this? Fifi did not think to ask such but perhaps it was jealousy or could it be she really did care about Marty Harper and did not want to see him destroyed into something cruel and broken like herself?

"Yes, owl. I sent it after I got back home," he explained waiting for her to come inside and then explaining to her what he had said in the owl. "When I didn't hear from you, I was afraid you were angry with me for wanting to to help." At her comment about being in Nicci's favor, Marty shrugged. "I don't know about that. Mostly just had a bargaining chip to work with. I can get in where he wanted information from. For me, it's a chance to keep myself alive because I suspect that Ice McQueen was not going to give up trying." Marty winced as she lit up a cigarette, the smoke the only sign of where she was.

It was Marty's turn to ask her what she meant when she commented about Nicci not telling him "Didn't tell me what?" he asked, adding, "That is if it's something you would want me to know..." He considered that Nicci may not have told him because it was something that was private to Fifi. Sure that may have been a long shot thought but then again, stranger things had happened. He sighed at Fifi's idea that he was some sort of punishment or replacement for her. "Fifi, I cannot do what you do. I cannot replace or even hope to do so. I'm strictly doing this because I have access to what is needed and..." Marty paused and may or may not have blushed a bit, he'll never admit he did. "Because if it will help someone I've grown to consider, at the very least, my best friend, well, then I want to help her. " Marty had to resist the urge to smile at her warning about Nicci. "And duly noted though I figured that out somewhat. Really, it was Victor that rescued me and I think he reacted on instinct at first but it is turning out to prove beneficial to all of us."

Marty walked over to the kitchen area and looked back to where the cigarette seemed to float in mid air. "Can I get you something? Coffee? Tea?" Picking up a bottle, he asked, "I have a nice Cab Sav from Chili if you'd like some wine." Once drinks were taken care of, Marty opting for a glass of the wine, he addressed her warning. "I can't replace you," he repeated. "But I can do a few things as a Muggle that others can't. For example, I can keep things you need hidden, hidden and more important for right now, I can get Victor and Vincent into areas they weren't able to before at work."

She's Like the Wind Empty Re: She's Like the Wind

Wed Dec 14, 2011 2:07 pm
"Ai was busy" Fifi simply replied for the matter that A: her involvement in the raid was strictly off the record, B: she wasn't one to admit to her own defeats and C: she didn't quite feel in the mood to see Marty as in any way deserving a straight answer, not when she found him this way, so very much a part of her world without even a invitation, Fifi had wanted to show Marty her world, not the other way round. It seemed Nicci had taken that from her as well. She was quiet for the moment, absorbed in her cigarette and the unhappy thoughts that where running though her head. "You overestimate your worth" blowing a smoke ring Fifi took out her silver cigarette case to avoid dropping ash on Marty's floor. "Whatever information it is that McQueen has Nicci could get easily with or without your assistance. He is toying with you and nothing more" Sighing Fifi continued "There is still much that Ai do not know, but your life is my responsibility.. and Nicci can go to hades for his meddling." under her breath Fifi muttered some not-so-polite words in French in regards to what she thought of the French Minister for Magic at this very moment. Indeed the political and personal climate had changed much over the years to the point of being edged on disaster.

"Why did you have to be on that street... why defend one such as moi.. why couldn't you have taken my advice Marty and stayed away?" It was clear that she was agitated, the fact that she had not been taking her medicine was making her mood even more volatile then usual. "To you it is all spy vs spy and cops and robbers but Ai've seen enough good people die" blinking there was tears in her eyes as her hands shook for a moment. Stopping to calm herself Fifi thought for a moment of her parents and sister. Good people all of them, nobody had even been able to make a proper count of how many lives had been lost during those troublesome times. Sadly the prospect of how close she herself had come to brushing against death during her career was a much less pressing matter, nobody would mourn her passing, or at least such was her belief. "No doubt it is something you are not to know" Fifi explained..or more un-explained "It seems Nicci no longer trusts moi to decide mine own fate, no doubt because he does not want interference in whatever little plans it is you two have come to arrange" that jealousy was still there, Fifi hated Nicci but she hated more the thought of him finding someone else more worthy of his time then she was. "Three weeks ago Ai was assigned to assist in the capture of Ugo Iskna.. do not worry yourself by his name he is not well known, he prays of Muggles and was up until a few years ago only considered a minor nuisance." Fifi sighed, placing her cigarette case and smoke on the table she held her hand against her side where the scar was still very fresh, the star shaped welt of a curse that would have been fatal had it not been for the prompt work of the St Mungo's staff.

"It seems he made the mistake to kidnap the son of a Ministry Official, it did not go well" Fifi took a sharp intake of breath as she touched the scar, it was going to be quite a while before Nicci would let her go out on the hunt again and she knew it. "You are right that you cannot do what Ai do, but there are enough young men and women who want nothing more then to fill my shoes and Marty Ai would not wish them upon anyone, anyone". her petite hand made a fist, she wished to tear herself apart so that she no longer had to endure the conflicting thoughts and emotions going though her head. It felt like so much Marty did not even hear, her warnings where not taken to heart "Marty" in a soft voice she was given to plead "If you wish to help Moi you would leave this place and go far away to forget that you had ever heard of La Smoking Llama or Moi, go somewhere warm with sun and meet a nice girl who would give you all you wish". But of course in her heart she knew such words where hopeless, even if she could just get that little element of doubt for him to be careful. "Beneficial to Nicci.. no matter what remember that for all he gives he will always ask more".

It seemed strange that Fifi hadn't spoken to anyone for as long, or as seriously as she had with Marty. All her other relationships where purely physical or mind games with little care beyond politeness and her own amusement. Why Marty? Well perhaps because nobody had ever offered her something purely in the sake of kindness...even if it was just a drink. "Wine, if you say it is suitable" Fifi stated before standing up to take off her invisibility cloak, the room was quite warm and it was more then a bit stuffy under the magically warmed fabric. Sitting across from Marty Fifi took her glass of wine, sipping at it and trying not to make a face of her dislike. "Victor and Vincent are hardly the best agents Marty, both of them failed out of the academy twice before Nicci took them on" Though that did just have to show the caliber of 'good' Auror's at the Ministry's disposal. "To put it quite simply Marty there is a magic for each task you did mention, all Ai would need is a strand of your hair" Fifi made a show of looking at said hair with a raised eyebrow, while Marty may have done his research Fifi knew that for all that could be learnt of books much of the magical world had to be experienced to be understood and she was not about to let some two bit Auror's and Nicci give away all their secrets before she had a chance of sharing some of them herself.

She's Like the Wind Empty Re: She's Like the Wind

"Oh," was all he replied, realizing he actually would have probably preferred her being angry at the message he sent her than just busy. At least if she was angry, it would have meant she cared enough to be angry. Busy? Too busy to really worry about him, he realized and yet couldn't figure out why it bothered him at all that she was busy rather than angry. It was when she brought up Nicci's involvement and that there were other ways to get the information from McQueen that Marty became a bit more involved in the conversation.

"Yes, I know that, Fifi. I even said that in the owl," he explained. "But, when she went as far as to go after me, she made it personal, very personal. I'm angry and I want answers as well. I'm not just doing this for Dominic and for you, I'm doing this for me as well," he explained and although his voice never rose, the heartfelt emotion behind his actions was obviously there. However, as Fifi simply said that whatever it was she was referring to, was not for him to know, he nodded and listened to her as she continued. "I was on that street, because she put me there. I had no idea it was going to involve you and," he managed a small smile, "You didn't tell me to stay away and not get involved till after we were arrested. But this is not spy versus spy for me. Not a game of cops and robbers like we used to play on the streets in Nutley. No, she came after me and I may be a dull, quiet, logical scientist but I am not going to roll over and die for her," he told her in strong, quiet voice.

He listened quietly as she told of what happened recently, feeling like she was holding something about it back from him but knowing better than to push her for information. He'd learned that one the hard way in the middle of Paris' main airport. It was her quiet plea for him to go away and forget smoking llama that darn near broke him but he had no choice anymore, not since that Halloween night on a Paris bridge. "Fifi, I have spent as much or more time working for Smoking Llama as you have doing what you're doing. For over twenty years, I thought they were doing a good thing. I thought I was part of doing a good thing. Several weeks ago, on that bridge in Paris, I learned how much of a lie I've been living for all that time and I don't like it. Not one bit."

He paused as she accepted his offer of wine and poured them both a glass. Sitting on the chair across from the sofa as she sat across from him, Marty continued. "The thing is, Smoking Llama can do good, not just for Muggles but for your people as well. Things that can be explained by magic can be covered up logically as well. One day, maybe it will be at that point but apparently, not as long as McQueen is running it and lying about things including who or what she is," he finished, adding "Besides, I have met a nice girl but I can't seem to get you to stay in one place long enough to find out if you even like to go to the beach or not." He no sooner said it when he blushed realizing what he had said and hoping she didn't get mad at him for it. He smiled as she described Victor and Vincent. "Maybe but I'll give Victor a definite passing grade on his flying and apparating abilities," he told her, remembering still that strange feeling as he suddenly found himself in his hotel room after being halfway down to the Seine.

"Just a strand of hair?" he asked, not having gotten to the sections on polyjuice potions. "But would you be able to remain that way for long? Would you also ... have any way of doing the work as well?" She had gotten his curiosity going at this new idea. But the thing was, you couldn't just walk into the Muggle world and act like you've lived there all your life just like you couldn't with the magical world.

She's Like the Wind Empty Re: She's Like the Wind

Prickling at his words Fifi tossed her head "Well how was Ai to know that it was what you had written? Ai never got the owl" Fifi hated the birds with a passion and it was why Nicci and the department dealt with her mail, only the very most important documents ever made it so far to her home where they would be gently tucked under the door to remain until Alvin tidied them away for when she was in a mood to deal with correspondences. Sighing she closed her eyes a moment as Marty spoke about it being personal, yes Fifi could remember a moment much like it when she had first walked into Dominic's office, a forgettable girl with too much to prove newly made a orphan by those she wished to punish more then anything else. Not that she had been the only case in that time, it was that thought that stopped Fifi from speaking though she nodded her head slightly in agreeance that he was not the only one wanting answers. Fifi just didn't want anyone else getting to them first.

"You where lucky, that is all" Fifi noted the tone of Marty's voice, but much as it might have been personal to him the sheer fact that Marty was a untrained Muggle was enough for her to doubt his abilities. There had been a element of contention regarding McQueen, her records stated that she was a Pureblood yet on the same hand no records of her wand ever being registered was a matter of concern. Fifi and Dominic where divided on that point, he thought that she was a Squib, Fifi was not so sure, there had always been a undercurrent trade in unregistered wands.. often though Asia where the build quality was not as fine. Usually they where sold to unsuspecting Muggleborns and Halfbloods as Olivanders and other famous brands to those too uneducated in the ways of magic to know better but there was also a trade as secondary wands, ones that could be disposed of after use to keep the Auror's off the case.

"Marty that lie is what kept you safe" Fifi pointed out, a sigh as she thought about that nice in Paris where she had come home, so proud of herself and France, of how wonderful it was that the war was over and all was well again, the bright future falling apart the moment she saw the dark mark looming over her family's home. "We do not need Smoking Llama, the Ministry has divisions for the covering up of the Magical world and has done so quite well until that English woman came to mess it all up" Fifi did not like the complications that had arisen from the publication of the novels. She had even seen reports of Muggles brandishing the Dark Mark tattooed into their very flesh. Irony it seemed was lost on the fact that they had appropriated the very symbols of the people who wished them enslaved. Sighing Fifi stood up after Marty commented about her "Marty Ai am not a nice girl, Ai have not been a nice girl for as long as Ai have worked with Nicci or discovered that..." her voice faltered for a moment as she tried to say, but then changed her mind ".. well quite a long time. You cannot be nice to have done the things that Ai have done". Instead she had been a scared girl, guided by Nicci whom she sometimes looked upon as a angel and just as often a devil. Shaking off the rest of Marty's speech as ridiculous fancy she just added "Ai do not wish that you make the same mistake again, Nicci he has a way of making you do just what he wants.." her eyes where dark with shame at the memory of just how far that 'what' could go. "Ai wish that it was all so black and white but doing the work Ai do you learn that it is never so simple and sometimes you cannot tell the good from bad" Fifi had done many things in the course of her duty that she was not prod of, but watching Marty so willing to throw his life into her world worried her more then she had expected.

"McQueen is small fish" Fifi stated, her thoughts on the shadowy figure that the woman had been with at the party. Nicci had denied her request to investigate further, now she knew why. Sipping at the wine she nodded that yes, a strand of hair was all she would need. Not that it was the only way of getting inside Marty's workplace of course. "As long as Ai must, and whatever must be done Ai would do, how strange that before you say that Ai am valued yet so quickly you doubt my abilities Marty." The irony causing her to give a warning look that she was not enjoying being second guessed by a Muggle. "But go on, you do what you wish.. but let it be known that Ai will not save you again Marty Harper... you have Nicci and Vincent to do that for you now." Pushing her chair back Fifi took a long drag of her cigarette to avoid having to say more, she had said her piece now, knowing what was what was enough and maybe now she could focus on her own matters instead of being endlessly frustrated by thoughts of what trouble Marty might have gotten himself into now.

As Fifi seemed to prickle at his words, Marty was not reacting too well to her response. "Well, how was I to know you don't get owls. It's not like you have ever told me a whole lot of ways to contact you. I'd have made a Floo call but that seemed a bit like an invasion of your privacy without your permission to call you," Marty told her and while his voice was not raised or sharp, he was not backing down like a house elf. "So I tried to contact you the only way I knew that had any chance of reaching you. Forgive me for getting that wrong, apparently." They almost sighed in unison at that point but for such different reasons. Marty was beginning to think that feeling like she was a friend to him was just a one sided fallacy on his part.

He sighed again at her explanation of the lie keeping him safe. "Apparently not," he reminded her. "Considering the information Dominic showed me on McQueen, it seems I've been in the middle of it with no clue for years. If that lie was keeping me safe, she wouldn't have ordered me to go observe that rally," he replied, taking a drink of his wine to give himself a moment to gather his thoughts. "Nice is relative, Fifi. You can't be nice because you care enough about standing up for what you believe is right, no matter what the cost? You can't be nice because you're willing to argue with 'a stupid Muggle' because you don't want him to get in the middle of trouble?" he asked her, feeling frustrated and confused. "I know Nic... Dominic is quite capable of that. I'm not stupid and I've dealt with people worse than him for years. But right now Dominic and I want the same thing and that is getting to McQueen. Really, isn't that what she's been doing to me for years? At least now, I have control over the situation and made the choice myself." He set his wine glass down on the coffee table and rubbed his hands over his face. "Fifi, nothing in life is simple, black and white. A lot of things are degrees and shades of grey. Even in science. Research and experiments are just ways to differentiate the layers and facts. Nothing is simple."

He leaned forward, elbows on his knees, hands clasped in front of him listening to her. "I know she's not the top. I've seen her cloister herself in her office with someone but they always come in keeping their face hidden." He sighed as she misunderstood what he was asking. "I'm not doubting you. I'm asking because I just want to know," he explained. "I haven't seen anything in my reading and studying about something like that and I was just........ oh forget it," he gave up wondering why he suddenly had to defend himself.

It was her comment about saving him that did it. "So what am I supposed to do? Quit work? Sit here waiting till you're bored and want to be amused. 'Oh let's see what tricks I can teach the Muggle?'," he asked her. "I'm not a pet dog or a toy for someone, anyone," he said firmly but rather than angry, he sounded hurt. "You say I don't understand your world but do you understand mine?"

She's Like the Wind Empty Re: She's Like the Wind

"Ai did not get the owl because Ai was in the hospital if you must know" Fifi was clearly upset to admit just a personal detail. "Ai do not like birds nor Floo, Nicci arranges my mail and Alvin.. my house elf does the rest" picking at a fingernail Fifi kept her eyes shaded. Marty was now only the second person in the world to know how she lived her life and just how dependent she was on Nicci for everything. In a way it made her think of the nude shoots she had done over the years, had Marty wished he could have had a endless pick from the Playwizard monthly but never before had she felt so naked before him then right now, even fully dressed and hidden by invisibility she felt exposed by his words, didn't he realise that she couldn't just open herself up so easily? "Ai am sorry Marty, Ai told you when we first did meet that Ai was not the kind of one to be friends.. it is.. difficult" her voice was hesitant and cracking slightly on the last word. All she had wanted in her life was just the same as any girl, to grow up, make her family proud of her and find a place in the world to belong.

"Marty it was hardly McQueens motivation for you to get involved, how was she to know that you would wish to risk your mission in order to play white knight to a woman you had only once before met?" Yes, this was Fifi playing devil's advocate, but Fifi rarely cared of sides when the truth was plain to see. She allowed herself to give Marty the smallest upturn of lips before she shook her head, denying what little kindness Marty said. "Dominic killed his own wife in cold blood, after which he led France into a war that threatened to bring the Magical..and Muggle world in Europe into complete destruction, he has lead countless to their death and hunted more to their execution as have Ai" While the facts where well known in France they where usually voiced by 'subversives', certainly Nicci never talked of it and the history books had done a fine job of 'tidying up' the less pleasant facts of how he had come to power. "Ai do not know if what we do is right or wrong, such things are intangible" there was a sadness in her voice, when she had joined the Ministry she had known that they where the 'good ones' and she was on the right side. Now it was all smoke and mirrors. Maybe this was why Marty had so fascinated her? That in this 'dumb' American Muggle she could find a conscience that did know right from wrong. "Ai did not say that you where a pet Marty, simply that Ai do not wish you to become one.." downcast she too was hurt that he would think that she would be so flippant about him. No doubt the stories about her had not worked in any favour in that way.

At least his next comment brought back some of her zeal "You eat steamed sausage in buns, work day in day out at jobs that have no meaning before going home to watch wars going on in far away places on your television, it's hardly complicated Marty" to Fifi's eyes the Muggle world was simply the magical one without any of the good things that made life simpler, Muggles she guessed had done well enough to mimic what they could but it was hardly a pressing affair in her world view. "They watched television while in their streets people just like them where being made to disappear, tortured, murdered.. there's a war Marty, every day there are people who would wish your kind enslaved or wiped from the face of the planet all together for not being born like us." Fifi's voice was calm though she clenched her cigarette tight enough to press the end out of shape. "Ai am sorry that Ai did wish you to not be any part of it, forgive me the impudence of thinking that Ai might wish to have just one person Ai could trust to be my friend alone". Blinking she found her eyes where moist, what was wrong with her? Who cared that this ignorant American could not understand that he was important to her in a way that while she could not describe nor fathom something had been made rotten the moment Nicci had got involved. He could turn anything to his own hand without ever letting it on that the decision was anything but voluntary. That in many ways made it so much worse.

Forget Nicci. Forget McQueen. Forget whatever. The words she said stunned him more then he cared to admit and all thoughts of keeping any feeling that he had, if he had any not that he would be admitting he had any but just if he had any just saying, secret were gone. "You were were?" he asked, his face going white, eyes wide. "You okay now? You'll be fine? You're healed or whatever it is they call it in a wizarding hospital?" We won't discuss the plan Marty was considering to blacken Nicci's eye for not telling him she had been ill, injured, whatever. "I'm sorry," he apologized to her for being upset that she didn't answer his owl, not that he had been but had he had any feelings that would have left him feeling upset that she wouldn't answer him just saying, or mentioned it to her as he had.

He did manage a weak smile as she tried to reminded him of her comments when they first met. "Actually you only said that you don't really have any one you would call friends. But, of course it is difficult to be friends, with anyone. That's why they are friends, because they are willing to work around the difficulties and differences." Going back to what she said about birds, he added, "Just like you're aversion to birds. If I want to get a letter to you, tell me the best way and I'll do it. Friends do that for each other."

As they shot words back and forth about who was better at doing what, Marty found himself hurting more than he thought it should. More then he expected this kind of discussion could. It wasn't that he wanted to totally convince her he was absolutely right. He just wanted her to understand where he was coming from in all of this and he was willing to try to understand her side of it too. They may not end up agreeing on which way of doing things was better but he was willing to listen and try to understand. Perhaps that is why he spoke out the comment about being a trained lap dog. "Sorry," he said quietly, "I shouldn't have said that." Then he listened as she gave her understanding of Muggle life. "That's just it though, Fifi," he tried to explain. "Sure, there are some like that but not all of us. Just like not all of your kind are like this Voldemort I've been reading about or Grindelwald. There's more to Muggle life than just that."

He looked up with complete surprise at her final worlds. "Your friend alone? Are you saying... Are you worried that I'll become Dominic's friend and not yours? Oh Fifi, no! I wouldn't!"

She's Like the Wind Empty Re: She's Like the Wind

"St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries" Fifi clarified between puffs of smoke "Ai am not going to die if that is what you mean" Fifi was forever blunt in her assessments. "as for the rest well, healers may be good but even they have their limits" Fifi did not wish to share scars, there was a reason why people of her occupation where assigned a permanent bed in the hospital after all. In many respects Fifi was indifferent to her own health, reckless to the point of abandon with her smokes, drugs and whatever else passed the time until the day where she took it all too far and there would be no tender hands to bring her back. Fifi at times longed for that day, the final escape from the world that had taken all she loved and raped her of her innocence. Would it be so bad to die? Fifi thought not. But of course Dominic would not allow her that would he? She was a asset and so as long as she was worthwhile there would always be a healer on standby and unlimited funds to patch her up just enough to keep on living. Fifi wished they had not been so quick on their feet this time.

In the privacy of Marty's home she allowed herself the little luxury to feel almost human, the frail tired woman under the shell of 'Famous Fifi' smoking and sharing her heart with a man whom she hardly knew..though of course she'd read his dossier and all the records she could find on him, all of which had told her nothing more then the obvious, that he was a Muggle, lived alone and countless other dry details. Files could tell you everything but a persons soul, Fifi sometimes wondered what her's looked like, but of course she would never dare look. There was some things even Fifi LaRoux would rather never know. "..all my friends are dead" Fifi stated in a matter of fact tone, "Dead or far away where they will not associate with one such as myself" that of course was not entirely true, Fifi had done a lot of work to push aside the people she once knew, it was if the death of her family had made it impossible to stand anyone who had known her once they had been alive. "It is not safe for one such as Ai to have friends..they are liability" already Marty had nearly lost his life for being connected to her, why couldn't he see that she was damaged and not worth it? To her it was obvious, a gigantic beacon above her head that said 'broken, do not touch'. "Ai do not know Marty.." how could she explain the moods that overcome her making it impossible to handle even the most indirect communications from the outside world? To her magically focused mind there was no way that she could think of, Telephones made garish sounds, letters took days to arrive and longer at times for her to feel in the mood to read them. Floo was messy and no doubt Nicci would see it as a opportunity to bother her. If there was some Muggle solution it would have to be Marty to find for she was honestly blank on anything of use.

It was almost as if she wished herself to hurt and for everyone around her to feel the same and hate her for it. It was easier to be hated then to be liked. Apologies like compliments washed over her, she never did understand how she was deserving of either and so just gave a indifferent shrug of her shoulder. "If Muggle life is so grand why must you insist upon becoming part of our world?" Fifi knew her own limitations, she saw Muggles as nothing more then background noise, they existed yes but where no more a part of her life as the remote tribespeople of the deepest jungle. They where just 'there'. "Why is it so wrong to be Marty Harper.. why must you study and wish to be anything else then that?" Fifi took a long sip of wine, draining her glass before pushing it towards Marty for a refill. "Dominic takes, you do not know it at first for her is kind, wonderful and generous to promise wonders and everything that you do ever dream of but he is like devil of Faust that whatever he gives he will take in turn." The dull ache in her side was starting to grow so she stood up, putting a hand against the recent scar as she did to try and ease the pain. "Nicci meddles, he toys and he will use you against moi Marty of that Ai have no doubt" one might well say she was paranoid, but paranoia kept you alive when all else failed. Fifi might not have cared much about if she lived or died but when the chips where down she was a survivor and would fight tooth and nail to win. One day she would see Nicci get what was coming to him, that was her only consolidation despite the pain it caused her at the same time. Because he was everything to her, arch-nemesis, father figure, lover, boss and guide all in one. No wonder it was confusing where her feelings begun and ended, she hated him as much as she loved and admired him, it was watching Mozart at work, she could admire him as a master just as she hated him for knowing what the masterpiece would bring. He had style, Fifi had learnt much from him but for the cool detachment, the fire within her was too strong to ignore wrongdoing the way that he could. Fifi would never be able to forgive him for so coolly putting Marty in danger, and had to wonder about how many other 'little risks' he had taken with her own life during their time together.

"Well, yes, that was part of my concern but are you still recuperating? Healed or still healing? Recovered?" he asked, truly concerned for her well being. Hearing the comment about healers having their limits, he knew that something was not fully taken care of and that was not good, in his opinion. Fifi deserved to recover and not be left suffering from her work though it sounded like she seemed to think otherwise from the way she spoke. He was not going to the point with her but when she went on about why she 'had no friends', he did. "Not all," he told her, looking at her firmly. "Afraid you're stuck with me and I'll find someway to allow me to get messages to you, ones others can't interfere with," he promised. It might take sometime, but Marty was going to find a way somehow.

It was as the conversation continued, Marty saw that they looked at what he was doing in two very different ways. "Fifi, it's not that I want to give up being a Muggle and become a wizard but.. Well, you mentioned how there's so many wars. A lot of the wars that have been fought have been because two different nations didn't bother trying to understand each other. So much trouble happens because, instead of trying to understand where each other are similiar and different, learn, people fight instead. I don't want to just assume what your world is like, I want to learn about it. I'm still going to be a Muggle, obviously that can't change but ... There's others who have worked with wizards successfully. Look at the disagreements we ended up in because I knew nothing of your world?" he asked her as he tried to explain his motivation.

As she stood and pressed her side, he saw she was either hurting or uncomfortable. "You all right?" he asked gently. "Would an ice pack or warm compress help?"

She's Like the Wind Empty Re: She's Like the Wind

"The Healers say that Ai am well" Fifi explained "though dark magic does not heal like cuts or bones.." Fifi placed a hand softly on her chest "more damage is in here and in here" Fifi touched her forehead "that will never heal" speaking of her own damaged mental state. she had partly shrugged off the invisibility cloak, her hands and face exposed amongst the shadowy fabric. She was who she was, beautiful but broken was probably the cliche but Fifi had never been one to describe herself as beautiful in the first point. Her face was plain without the glamor spells and care taken in makeup, under the face she put on for the world she felt herself to be drab, a tired soul putting up walls from all that could hurt her. Fifi wondered if Marty would even recognize her without the clothes and styling that made up 'Fifi LaRoux' she bet to herself that she could walk right past him and he'd be none the wiser, Fifi thought to do that very thing when she had the chance, it wasn't unknown for her to 'disappear' into the streets of Paris under the assumed identity of her former life.

"Then Ai guess if you must insist to remain as a friend that you should endeavor not to die Marty Harper" while she used his full name the tone of her voice was wry in amusement. She wished her own heart could be so light to belive that things could change, but everything in the past fifteen years told her the opposite. Leaving Marty to devise a means of communicating with her in a way that would not impede upon her solitude Fifi was endeavoring to get drunk with as much efficacy as she could muster. Cancer, drink or ill placed luck, one or the others would get to her in the end and Fifi knew the odds where that she'd die by the wand long before the others had a chance to touch her. "You are an idealist Marty, maybe that is why it is that Ai like you?" Fifi poised the question in a sense of wonder, trying to make sense of the twisted cause and effect that had brought her to this place. "Understanding does hardly matter, Napoléon would not have put aside his sword to have known those of the nations he conquered better, nor even in the case of two dogs born of the same mother do they not fight when offered a single piece of meat?" yes they had descended to arguing philosophy, Fifi was a firm believer in survival of the fittest and that at a primal level all culture was merely a way to hide the savage underneath.

Shaking her head that she was neither all right nor in need of either items Marty had mentioned Fifi paced the room, the exercise hurting, but it was the good hurt of muscles in need of toning since her time in the hospital. "Ai am fine, it is not the first time Ai have been caught off guard..nor no doubt the last" she admitted wondering what it was that Nicci would do to her for daring return to America without his permission. Right now however Fifi didn't care, some things where more important then loyalty and duty, though why it was that spending her time with Marty would be above all that she held dear well Fifi didn't know, he calmed her mind somehow when they where not at each others throats in argument. Whatever it was she was glad for him to be there, though she'd never admit it of course!

Would Marty recognize Fifi without all her makeup and charms? There was a good chance he would not but there was a good chance he might because if you asked him what kind of make up she wore, or what particular shade eyeshadow she wore he liked, Marty would probably just stare at you as if you grew two heads. Things like that were not all that important to him. It took more than looks to make a person who they were and it was those things that Marty could remember about Fifi more than make up and hairdos and such things. Sure, he remembered an outfit he might see her in that he found to be a favorite, like the blue dress at the airport which, yes, despite all the ruckus that occurred he had noticed and had liked.

He grinned at her comment and nodded. "I do insist on remaining a friend. Make you a deal then, I promise to endeavor not to die anytime soon, but you promise to endeavor not to get caught off guard any time soon, either," he told her, looking into her eyes as much as was possible at the moment, letting her know he was quite serious about sticking it out as her friend. His smile grew as he added, "And, if you meet me New Year's night at Rockefeller Center, there's a cafe that looks out on the skating rink there, I'll have your Christmas gift, a way figured out we can communicate privately." Marty already had an idea nudging that he was going to investigate the possibility of.

She's Like the Wind Empty Re: She's Like the Wind

How was it that a man like him? A man of no breeding, poor taste and who was far beyond her years would yet managed to gain a private audience with her? Let alone the lengths that she had gone on his behalf. Nicci of course was older still but there was a element of refinement and craft to his dealings, that and of course the intense power with which he had at his disposal. Pacing his room her eyes wandered over everything, the overwhelming sense of brown and the obvious signs of one who lived alone for too long. Not that she herself was of course any better, but with LaFroz and Alvin well, she never felt alone. "Ai deal?" Fifi asked, one eyebrow raised in surprise of his confidence. Fifi was not used to one dealing for anything less then information or in rare cases their life. Looking up to him it was distracting that he was so tall, Fifi shrugged "Very well, Ai will do my best" at least she could not lie about that, Fifi might not take much consideration in her private life but when it came to hunting down those who would prey on others she was not about to allow another mistake.

Nicci wasn't going to put up with her forever after all. There was always new recruits coming out of the training programs now that the Ministry had started emphasizing on proper training before entering into the Ministry. The number of drop outs in the years after the rise to fame of the Potter's had caused quite a few matters to be changed after enough new blood was found to replace those lost during the war. The offer after however took her off guard. Both in the brazen nature and insistence on her being able to make such a rondevu. Her heart sunk at the knowledge that Nicci would no doubt have expected her for their New Years celebrations, and she had signed contracts to appear at this event or another. After all keeping up with the lifestyle of famous Fifi LaRoux was not cheap and it was her attendance at one event or another that stocked her closet and brought in the money for her 'keeper'. Fifi sometimes looked at it as being a rather expensive whore, only at least in most cases she was allowed to keep her clothes on. "It is very late notice Marty, but Ai will try" it was the best and only answer she could give.

While Fifi did not know what time it had been when she arrived at Marty's she knew that she had stayed far longer then she had expected. Soon no doubt Nicci would send a owl or someone to call on her and be made suspicious, Fifi did not like the feeling of being watched but no doubt Nicci would call it 'caring' "Ai must go, but.. thank you.. Ai will see you on New Years maybe" Fifi finshed off her glass of wine before tucking the invisibility cloak back around her, vanishing out of view as she did so. "Ai hope you will not be alone on Christmas" she said before going quiet, why she had said it she didn't know except that it saddened her to think of Marty spending such a festive holiday in the small apartment by himself. "Take care Marty.." and with that the door seemed to open and close on itself, Fifi was gone, taking the stars careful of her sore side before disappearing into the maze of streets. Stopping at a corner she adjusted her watch and activated the portkey to take her home to Paris.
