Marty had returned to his room and quickly changed from his suit into more relaxed garb before heading back out and walking through the city, taking in the sites. He'd walked to The Shard and went to the observation deck, taking in the view of the city below, contemplating everything he learned and heard that morning. Seemed odd to know that he was kin to the Minister of Magic and had only just learned any of it existed until over a year and a half ago.
Leaving The Shard, he walked for a bit stopping along the way to look into a shop window or check his location and decide on a direction. His mind constantly trying to work out everything that happened, including (or maybe especially) the scene with Fifi. He sighed as he recalled the sight of her walking away. Second guessing himself as to whether he should have gone after her or called out or just did what he did and gone back inside.
He'd lost track of time as he explored the city not quite as a tourist since he'd done that on his previous visit but just wandering. Wandering that is until Marty realized he had no idea where he now was. Of course, it would have been wonderful if Marty had remembered to take the map of London that was currently sitting on the table in his hotel room. So it was Marty was standing on the sidewalk, a bit out of the way of the flow of the pedestrian traffic trying to recognize something to tell him where he now was.
A voice got Marty's attention and he found himself confronted by/with a lime green vision. No, not a vision. "Oh, you're a healer? I'm fine, really. Just, well, just lost. Guess it's what I get for wandering like this," Marty replied with a wry smile.

A warm smile lit up the girl's face when the man recognised her uniform "Oh no.. well not yet anyway.. I'm only a student" she blushed, for the first time she had found herself dealing with Professors who where very strict and unimpressed with what they called 'primitive magic' Kat had felt quite insulted at that, after all who was to say what was right and wrong? The only thing that mattered was that it worked. Her first impression of the man being a tourist was reinforced by the accent "Are you American? Sorry I'm being rude only your accent is really quite interesting" There was just enough cover from her umbrella to stop from getting soaked by the drizzle but that wasn't enough to make Kat give up on talking to someone new and interesting (and to Kat everyone was interesting). "I know what you mean by getting lost though, I promised my boyfriend Anton to meet him at the Leaky Cauldron and would you believe that I caught the wrong train and almost ended up on my way to Scotland instead?" shaking her head in amazement at her own foolishness Kat realised she probably should ask the poor man where he wanted to go before talking his ear off.
"So um.. where where you trying to go? I always find London confusing.. the maps make my eyes hurt at all the coloured lines.." shaking some rain off her umbrella she matched the man's smile "I'm Kat by the way" she said as way of greeting, offering her hand to shake. Tired she might have been but just being able to make herself useful and meet someone knew from overseas was enough to perk her energy level's back up.. if only because it meant she had a better story for what she had done that day then sad news about people being ill and how much reading she was forced to do in order to keep up with her studies. At least she could tell herself that it was only for four years and then she would be qualified and free to never read another page if she didn't want to. In truth it was England that was the biggest downer, though having family both on her side and being able to visit some of Anton's relatives did make it a bit easier. Sometimes Kat regretted going to Australia, she missed the surf and the people, even the food since life in England meant a whole lot less money to waste on things she wanted vs the bare essentials. In some ways Kat would have been happier living on rice and goat milk in Africa vs nights of trying to study to the noise of tv and other people talking in the next room. Kat was used to talking, she found it reassuring but the noise of television always put her a little on edge for the possibility of a ad break bringing bad news.

Marty wasn't sure to be pleased he recognized the St Mungo's uniform or embarrassed that he didn't realize she was a student but then, really, he wouldn't have been sure how to tell the difference in the two anyway. "Must be interesting?" he asked, conversationally. Nodding when she asked if he was an American. "Yes, I am," he told her and shook his head when she apologized for being rude. "No, you weren't at all," he assured her, interested when she mentioned the legendary (at least to him since he'd only read about it in his studies) Leaky Cauldron. "I've never been to it so I suspect I'd probably get lost just as bad if I tried to go." He wasn't going to bring up the first time he took the PATH to the city by himself in high school, planning on going to the science museum but ending up changing to the wrong train and ending up in Long Island.
As to the million dollar, or I guess it would be pound since we're in London, question of where was he going, Marty didn't know for sure. "Well, actually, I sort of had decided to just wander and discover what I could about London but didn't pay attention to where I was wandering. I guess I would be going to my hotel or supper if I could find a good curry place on the way back to The Savoy."
"Pleased to meet you Kat," Marty said, holding out his hand, "Martin Harper. Most folks call me Marty," introducing himself as well.

"Mmm.. yeah you get to meet lots of people which I like" she explained "but also lots of hard work". Where it not for her family and Anton being behind her Kat might well have given up after her first week, but so far she'd managed to stick it out though daydreams of running off to the sunset to elope with Anton on a far off sunny beach where never far from her mind. "So what do you do?" Kat asked before shrugging as the man said she wasn't being rude, Kat knew she was because her Aunt was always telling her off for asking so many questions. "What part? I've never been to America.. well I mean I've been to Haiti and a lot of South America but never America America.." Kat felt rather silly trying to explain but while she'd always been excited about travelling the United States had never really caught her interest.. probably because she had seen so much about it on tv and in books that it lacked the mystery of the unknown. Plus there was little work for Healers..well apart from New Orleans and other parts of the country when disasters happened. Kat had always wondered why it was that America being so rich and all couldn't take care of it's own people but as much as her Dad had tried to explain she knew she'd never really understand. "My Mum used to work at the Leaky Cauldron.. many years ago" Kat was glad to go onto more happier topics, south America was a place Kat was very passionate about and she still cared deeply for the people working in Haiti, Chile and Brazil. In a way Kat had four homes.. the UK where she had been born, Australia where her brother and his family lived and the wilds of South America and Africa where she had grown up.
At least if there was one topic Kat could get 100% behind it was food, she had found her attention waining a bit when the man went into how he'd gotten lost but at the mention of Curry Kat cheered up.. even as her belly grumbled about the fact that she hadn't eaten for hours. "Oh well the very best curry has to be Rasa.. but that's all the way to Northwood..miles away" Kat didn't know that much about London but she knew enough to keep fed and for the most part pointed in the right direction. "I don't know the Savoy but I was heading to Kings Cross.. there's a tandoori place but it's not very good" Kat was half tempted to invite the poor man to dinner, Ellie was sure to be putting on a good spread and would most certainly have the right kick of spices. "Or there's always Samwise Cafe's in Diagon Alley.. they do a great potato curry". Shaking hands with the man "Nice to meetcha Marty!" she said with a smile before waiting to see where Marty wanted to go.

Well, if Fifi LaRoux was the female world's answer to 'the strong, silent type', Kat was the 'laid back' type and after the day he had, Marty found that relaxing. Had he ever had married, she'd be old enough to be one of his daughters and Marty hoped that had he been a father, they would have turned out somewhat like this girl. At her question about what he did, Marty smiled and resisted the urge to say 'screw things up apparently'. "Investigative scientist," he replied. "I sort of go out and try to explain unexplained events. Sometimes I find answers and sometimes I end up with more questions. Home for me is New York City," he added, answering all her questions. Marty's eyes widened a bit as she mentioned the countries she'd been to. "Well, sounds like you've had an adventure or two?" he asked, wondering what brought her to those countries.
He listened as she mentioned several choices for curry. Apparently, the stomachs were plotting together because his decided to make a duet out of the grumbling, reminding him of how long it had been since the breakfast meeting at Clevon's office. "Well, if you're not in a hurry and your young man, Anton was it, wouldn't object, I wouldn't mind some company to share a curry with. My treat?" It was the least he could do for her being so helpful and after the morning events, pleasant conversation would be nice. "Miles might be too far to wait and I'd rather not deal with bad curry," Marty agreed, though wondered if the last one would be problematical for them. "Would they allow someone like me in there? Is it just for magical folk?" he asked, hoping that wouldn't be a problem and not realizing she didn't know he was a Muggle.

"Oh.. " Kat just said with the glazed look of one who had no idea what a Investigative scientist was' nor why on earth people would be paid to go investigate things when they would just end up with more questions. To Kat that sounded rather silly and a waste of time but she was polite enough to not say that and instead give the man a small awkward smile to try and hide her lack of knowledge. Maybe later she would ask Anton if he knew what a investigative scientist was.. she knew he would have some idea.. after all he was the smart one and she was just the pretty face. Anton might not have agreed but Kat knew that she would never be as clever as him even if she lived to be a thousand years old. Kat didn't much mind it, she knew that sometimes the wisest people couldn't even read but could understand nature and people on a level that Kat could only dream of. Kat gave the man a rather shy smile at his amazement, Kat tended to find herself feeling rather silly to try and describe the life she had grown up with "Oh yes, I guess my life is one big adventure... I'm still trying to get used to all this.." she admitted gesturing at the city around them before sighing "Ever since I was little I wanted to be a healer but now.. all I want is to run away to some wild remote island with Anton..he's my boyfriend and live by the beach without a care in the world.. that's rather selfish isn't it?" still she smiled at the though, her and Anton and a little beach hut with red and brown haired little children getting underfoot. Kat knew that it wouldn't be a easy life.. she had spent enough time covered in mud and treating wounds, tropical diseases and malnutrition to know that it was anything but ideal. Yet while some girls daydreamed of big fancy houses with pools, cars and fancy clothes Kat yearned for the wild, she knew that she would never truly feel at home in London nor any big city.
While Aunt Brenda had tried a million times to get Kat to avoid strange men Kat clearly had never learned the 'be wary of strangers' rule which was why she was all too keen to a free dinner on behalf of her new friend. "Sure!" both Hobson and Davis family had the same rule when it came to never saying no to free food. Mind you she did feel a little guilty when Anton was mentioned... not for Anton but because she could always skip dinner at Ellie's if she was running late. Kat was a creature of erratic habit of which the most important was being able to give Anton a gigantic hug at the end of her day. The hardest part was always her night shifts.. hugging didn't work nearly as well when the other person was already asleep! Nodding along that bad curry was never a good idea Kat looked momentarily confused when Marty asked if he would be allowed into Samwises's "Well yeah.. I mean there's no dress code or anything" Kat couldn't help but frown a little remembering the more pompous people who would stare at her family when they visited the famous street. "Oh.." she felt herself blush as Marty corrected the question.. she had just assumed that being that he knew she was a healer he'd most certainly have been a wizard herself. To some just knowing the person was a Muggle would be awkward but Kat took it all in her stride "Yeah course.. I mean some of the fancy shops might have problems.. but most people tend to mind their own business.." With a destination in mind Kat eyed over the crowds critically before leading Marty down a side street and to a bus stop. "Um.. do you have a sickle? I'm one short.." Kat blushed as she hunted though her pockets.. a mixture of wizard and Muggle money as she tried to track down enough for her and Marty to get a ride on the Knight Bus.

Marty looked around at the city he was currently smack in the middle of with Kat. "Well, if it's any consolation," he told her with a wry smile, "I've lived in a big city for years and I'm still trying to get used to this one, too." It seemed that big and city were some of the few things New York and London had in common. It was rather different her than in the states. Marty completely understood about changing ideas. It was why he ended up working at a newspaper rather than going into his chosen field for several years. "Nothing wrong with thinking about other directions to go. Sounds like Anton's pretty lucky to have someone wanting to spend time with him like that," he said with a smile. "No, it doesn't sound selfish but, sometimes, there's nothing wrong with considering your own wants or needs first." For a moment, Marty wondered if maybe he should consider being 'rather selfish' sometimes, himself.
At the assurance it would be all right for him to go to Diagon Alley, he began to feel rather excited about the idea, having never been there but reading about it in his studies. As she asked for a sickle, he was about to say he didn't but then remembered that, indeed, he did have some wizarding money tucked away in case of emergency. He'd started carrying it out of habit when he began working with the Vincent twins and began studying for the Wizarding tests. Giving her the requested coin, he followed her down the side street to a bus stop and waited.

"Have you been in London long?" Kat asked, she knew it was hard to rely on first impressions... after all people where constantly mistaking her for being from somewhere else! "It's funny.. I was born in England but it never really feels like home when it rains... I'm spoilt for sunshine I guess" It just seemed her bad luck to always wind up in Europe when the weather was bad, though even the summer felt like she was being cheated after the long hot days she had grown used to in Australia. While the man was a stranger it had hardly taken any time for Kat to consider him a good person..though of course she had no evidence either way the fact that he had spoken kindly to her was enough to make her feel that he could be trusted.. sometimes she found that there was questions in her mind that she just wasn't quite ready to talk about with Anton of her family of yet. Strangers at least had no reason to be anything but honest and so she looked a little surprised when the man suggested that maybe, just maybe, it wasn't so bad to think about giving up on everything. Kat sighed, "No I'm lucky... Anton is so very patent to put up with me.. I have never really met anyone like him before.." was that a blush from the girl who had broken a heart in almost every country she had ever visited? Kat had felt so very young then to string boys along and then let go of them the moment she was bored or they moved on. She couldn't even think of what it would be like to live without Anton in her life, the whole thought of losing him was too horrible to imagine.
"My Mum say's I have a gift.. it would be simply horrid if I was to waste it...." chewing over the dilemma in her heard she shook her head "I want to make a difference truly but it's so very hard when I could be out doing things instead of studying old books all the time" Kat hadn't mentioned the clinic in her dream.. with Anton's experience with herbs and her healing she was sure they could really do well to run a little clinic of their own, treating the village children so they they grow up tall and healthy along side their own. She knew that as long as she was only a volunteer she would never have her own clinic and would always have to work alongside another more experienced healer, while she had gotten away with doing more then what was strictly permitted the rule was that only a fully qualified healer could perform the more crucial life saving tasks that often stood between life and death. Kat had helped her mother enough times to decide early on that it was a path she wanted to take, yet now that the path was open to her with just a few more years of training it seemed a impossible wait!
Kat couldn't help her curiosity at the man, he seemed very strange to be alone and walking around with someone as weird as her. "Thanks" she mumbled taking the sickle and tapping it against the bus stop pole three times. By the third tap there was a strong gust of warm air as before them stopped the most purple bus anyone had ever seen. "Hey Ernie.. two to The Leakey Cauldron please" giving her money to Stan she accepted the tickets and tried to avoid the eyes, once upon a time she used to love the attention of boys but today she was more into keeping her head down. "Quick" she called back to Marty as she hurried to a deck chair near the edge.. Kat barely had enough time to grab hold of the side of the bus when Earnie pumped the gas and with a loud toot the bus started screaming though traffic so fast that the streets became a blur and their seats slid backwards.. OH&S was one battle that had not quite made a foothold in the transit system as yet and so one had to hold on for dear life as the Knight Bus screatched though traffic before pulling up short with a sharp 'DING'.
"Stop 23 The Leakey Cauldron, Diagon Alley, Weasley's Wizard Weeze, Gringotts Wizarding Bank, Knockturn Alley" .
A loud voice seemed to come from everywhere as the doors opened. Kat rather missed how the bus had been when she was a child, back then Stan used to tell jokes and lies and there was no strong authoritative voice from the tourist board pointing out the sites at every stop.
